The struggle to be “present” in everyday life constitutes the most important aspect of Gurdjieff’s teaching. Gurdjieff’s teaching allows human beings to develop their latent capabilities – physical, mental and emotional – in an integrated way. This process, over time, leads to a deeper understanding of oneself, a more lively interaction with life, and the possibility of connecting with spiritual influences.
One of Gurdjieff’s most powerful desires was to convey to people the courage of a creative life. Nothing should be taken for granted. Everything must be corroborated personally. Essentially, men should “work on themselves” and transform the very substances from which they are made. One can talk about the search for presence, self-knowledge, the state of awakening, being and consciousness – but, according to Gurdjieff, it is only through real experiences that these words gain meaning. The practical side of this Work begins with self-observation, which consists of becoming more aware of ourselves.
Gurdjieff brought to the West the Fourth Way, a path that cultivates simultaneous work on all sides of oneself, a way that does not require withdrawal from life, but shows us how a new relationship with oneself, with life itself, provides the material for inner work.
Today, three quarters of a century after G.I. Gurdjieff’s passing in 1949, the movement he started is present in every corner of The World, and South Florida is no exception. Here, in this humid but blessed region of miraculous sunsets, a conglomerate of groups that originated in varied cities like New York, Los Angeles, Peru, Chile, or Caracas, have come together with the common goal of fostering our “Inner Work”.
We are affiliated to the Gurdjieff Foundation of New York and The Gurdjieff Foundation of Caracas, while nurturing close ties with many Gurdjieff groups all over The World.
Groups in English meet regularly in Hollywood, FL, while Groups in Spanish hold activities in both Hollywood FL, and El Doral. There are members who travel from different parts of Florida to our gatherings. Even though personal attendance is encouraged, we also hold online sessions for individuals who can’t attend the activities in person.

“Before our nature was spoiled, all four in this team—horse, cart, driver, master—were one; all the parts had a common understanding, all worked together, labored, rested, fed, at the same time. But the language has been forgotten, each part has become separate and lives cut off from the rest. Now, at times, it is necessary for them to work together, but it is impossible, one part wants one thing, another part something else. The point is to re-establish what has been lost, not to acquire anything new. This is the purpose of development. … the power of changing oneself lies not in the mind, but in the body and the feeling.”
